For Sale Gallery  (More Than You Need to Know!)

Bussy is SOLD Thanks for your interest.

"Bussy" My 1979 VW Bus PROJECT is a work in progress and/or a Grand Experiment. The experimental part is easily over, but I keep wanting to try "THIS" or "THAT" and Bussy is a perfect specimen to experiment on as the body is actively being reclaimed by Mother Nature. When Mount Saint Helens erupted on May 18, 1980, Bussy was brand new and living in Eastern Washington, right in the ash plume of the mountain. I'm certain that the owners did the best they could - probably cleaned him up and sold him ASAP! The engine and running gear are now long since replaced, but any doubled body panels were filled with abrasive ash which ground away any rust preventative there might have been. In Eastern Washington, moisture is not a major concern but when he moved to the west side of the state, that ash became like a sponge, holding moisture to rust away those body parts.

The PROJECT started out as moulding the bus to fit my wants and needs but I could not get the engines to last on my frequent trips down I-5 and out to the Oregon Coast! After 5 attempts at making the T4 2L engines work for me, in 2002 I decided to convert to Subaru. I will provide detailed information on the conversion in the "Busaru" Gallery, but here I am mainly concerned with providing the information potential buyers may want to see. The Subaru conversion was a success beyond my wildest dreams. It is so smooth and powerful that it has actually become a totally different automobile - all the good parts of a VW Bus, but drives more like a modern car.

I am going to be unable to FINISH the PROJECT, unfortunately. All the modifications and conversions, tests and trials are completed. It RUNS FLAWLESSLY! Next part of the PROJECT is to get the replacement body prepared and stuff Bussy into Bus 2. My ideas for Bus 2 were to eliminate the sliding door, add power roll-up windows & SCREENS to all 4 major passenger area windows, Add a sliding window and screens to the rear hatch, embed the fake spare tire / radiator INTO the nose of the bus a few inches, Add front spoiler and side skirts that will help the bus hug the road in cross-winds and gusts (and the skirts and spoiler will raise up for back roads and snow!) I also had plans to replace the #3 side windows with lift-up hatches for access to narrow shelves inside and add a cooking table that either is a reversible section of body panel or attaches to hooks behind the slider track cover (drivers side.)

The PROJECT, if purchased intact, includes Bussy, with 1200 Watt inverter and 1000 W microwave, all currently installed parts and pieces, all "in progress" parts and pieces that may be desired, rebuildable Subaru 2.2L engine, Bus 2, a 1974 rolling body with no structural rust, virtually dent-free and ready to re-strip and start fresh. (This body is as perfect as I've seen. That said, it was sprayed with primer maybe 15 years ago and primer does not seal from moisture. There is light surface rust all over that needs to be knocked down, body re-sprayed with a primer-sealer, then whatever finishing touches the new owner may desire.) There are other components, such as the 4 mounted Nokian snow tires and the Espar diesel heater that may be sold separately. There are spare pristine rear torsion bars, extra axle shafts / CV joints, engine stand, engine hoist with adapters for Subey engine alone or engine / transaxle combined. There are Subaru parts CD, copy of Subaru shop manual, Bentley VW bus manual, replacement (spare) parts for all the Subaru engine sensors. Any or all of my notes, photos and how-to's will be available to the new owner.  I'd like to get somewhere in the $4000 range for the whole PROJECT. Make me an offer, but remember you're buying a "Work in Progress." It is currently a wonderful daily driver, but is flaking away such that the PROJECT needs to be finished soon.
